APLINGTON – Aplington-Parkersburg/Dike-New Hartford United scored five second-half goals on its way to a 6-2 victory over Denver Tuesday in Aplington.

      NEW HARTFORD – Miya Soppe scored a goal in the second half, lifting the Dike-New Hartford girls soccer team to a 1-1 tie against Union Tuesday in New Hartford.

MANCHESTER – The Dike-New Hartford girls’ track team picked up a win in the 4 x 800-meter relay on its way for a sixth-place finish at the West Delaware Girls Invitational.

      GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center boys tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches last week, topping Iowa Falls-Alden 9-0 and Oelwein 8-1.

   DES MOINES – A pair of local athletes scored top-10 finishes in the girls high jump Friday at the Drake Relays.

   Grundy Center senior Allison Koch and Gladbrook-Reinbeck senior Kennedy Brant placed eighth and ninth in the event, with both clearing 5-foot-5.

A pair of local athletes opened competition in the Drake Relays Thursday in Des Moines. Grundy Center senior Emerson Vokes placed 11th in the 3,200-meter run while Dike-New Hartford junior 17th in the long jump.

Vokes missed a person-best in the 3,200 by less than five seconds, finishing in 9 minutes, 21.05 seconds. He was in sixth place after the first 400 meters and remained in or just outside the top 10 through the remainder of the race.

DIKE – Add another superlative to the athletic career of Grundy Center senior Judd Jirovsky.

Grundy County will be well represented at the Drake Relays this weekend, with Grundy Center, Dike-New Hartford and Gladbrook-Reinbeck combining to send 11 events to the big blue oval.
