Davie gives Spartans third Thursday title

Senior Brayden Davie gave Grundy Center its third state championship of the Thursday Class 2A session, winning the 400-meter dash in personal best time.

Davie took the lead out of the starting blocks and won by 1.35 seconds. The title was Davie's first individually after he was part of relay championships a year ago.

Spartan girls score 4 x 800 state championship

The Grundy Center girls track team won its first 4 x 800-meter title since 2010 Thursday, taking the Class 2A event at the State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines Thursday.

The Spartans took the lead on the front stretch as Raelyn Steinmeyer opened with her best split of the season. Karlee Lynch extended the lead and Maddy Hendershot extended it even more, giving Grace Storjohann a seven-second lead entering the anchor leg.

Vokes takes second straight 3,200-meter state title

Grundy Center senior Emerson Vokes earned his second straight Class 2A 3,200-meter state track championship Thursday, winning the event in 9 minutes, 13.57 seconds.

Vokes was challenged through the first 2,400 meters before pulling away in the final 800 and winning by more than 12 seconds.

Spartan boys edge Denver for NICL crown

      LEGRAND – Grundy Center outscored Denver 14-8 in the final two events, coming from behind to edge the Cyclones for its second North Iowa Cedar League track title in the past three years.

      LEGRAND – Grundy Center won three of the seven relays on its way to its third straight North Iowa Cedar League Girls Track and Field championship Thursday at East Marshall High School in LeGrand.

Spartan girls golfers return to top of North Iowa Cedar League

     WATERLOO – The Grundy Center girls golf team captured its first North Iowa Cedar League championship since 2023 Monday, winning the NICL Conference Meet at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Waterloo.

BCLUW girls first, boys second at Iowa Star Conference golf meets

      WATERLOO – Leah McEwen shot a round of 99, leading the BCLUW girls golf team to first place at the Iowa Star Conference Meet at the Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo last Wednesday.

Spartan boys golfers win triangular, place fourth at South Tama County

      GRUNDY CENTER – Judd Jirovsky shot an even-par round of 36 last Tuesday, leading the Grundy Center High School boys golf team to a triangular victory over Union and Dike-New Hartford.

Comet golfers sweep home meets

      CONRAD – Zaden Eggers and Beau Towne shot rounds of 78 each last Monday, leading the BCLUW boys golf team to first place in the Comets’ home tournament at the Oakwood Golf Course. 

Spartan girls continue strong play, down D-NH, place second in Schupbach Invite

      GRUNDY CENTER – Reagan Pekarek earned the meet medal Tuesday as the Grundy Center girls golf team won a triangular at home over Dike-New Hartford and Union Community.

Spartan boys tennis team fourth at NICL Tourney

WATERLOO – The Grundy Center boys tennis team placed fourth in the North Iowa Cedar League Tournament last Tuesday.

GCGR girls soccer falls to Denver, A-P

      REINBECK – The Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls soccer team dropped a pair of games last week, 4-0 to No. 3-ranked Denver and 5-0 to No. 10-ranked Aplington-Parkersburg.

United soccer shuts out GCGR

      APLINGTON – Isaiah Olson had 11 saves Friday as the Aplington-Parkersburg/Dike-New Hartford United boys soccer team shut out Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 2-0.

GCGR soccer boys top Denver twice

      The Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys soccer team defeated Denver on back-to-back nights last week, 10-0 Monday in Reinbeck and 3-0 Tuesday in Denver.

Spartan, Wolverine boys compete at New Hampton

      NEW HAMPTON – Dike-New Hartford’s Dawson Dietrick and Grundy Center’s Brayden Davie picked up event wins last Monday at the Chickasaw Invitational at New Hampton.
