The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office responded to 45 dispatches from Aug. 20 through Aug. 27, including reports of drug possession, scams, missing children, suspicious activity, erratic drivers and animals in the roadway.

New exhibit celebrates the history of Grundy County churches

GRUNDY CENTER, Iowa — The history of Grundy County’s churches took center stage this September as the Grundy Center Historical Society opened a new exhibit featuring photographs, memorabilia and stories from eleven Grundy County congregations.

Grundy County students earn degrees from Hawkeye Community College

Several Grundy County students were among Hawkeye Community College's summer 2026 graduates, earning degrees and certificates in fields ranging from emergency medical services to nursing.

Hawkeye Community College announced its summer graduates Aug. 31, listing graduates by hometown along with their degree or certificate and program of study.

People's Savings Bank ribbon cutting at new location in Reinbeck

REINBECK, Iowa - With recently completed construction, People's Savings Bank opened its doors on their newest location in Reinbeck on Thursday, September 4th. Official ribbon cutting with city officials and bank employees took place Thursday afternoon, opening its location to the public with food vendors, kid's activities, guided tours of the new building, and gift bags for those who came.

Dig-Inn to Reinbeck's Unique Bar

Something typically found in the trendy, commercial districts of large cities resides on the east side of Reinbeck, Iowa.

Conceptually, The Dig-Inn is a small-town bar that also sells vinyl records. In person, The Dig-Inn is part honky-tonk bar, part vinyl lover's hideaway, and part museum to artifacts of aesthetically pleasing hodge-podge. A local patron stated that The Dig-Inn was "a place where all the cool kids go." 

Grundy Center elementary picture day set for Sept. 10

GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center Elementary students will have their school pictures taken Thursday, Sept. 10.

TFD Photo & Film will be at Grundy Center to take school portraits for the 2026-27 school year.

Figure 8 Racing Brings Two Days of Action to the Grundy County Fairgrounds

The engines roared and the mud flew as the All-American Grundy County Fairgrounds hosted two days of hard-charging Figure 8 racing on August 28th and 29th. Fans were treated to plenty of close competition, bent metal, and classic Figure 8 excitement. 

Grundy County Memorial Hospital recognized with Excellence in Patient Experience Award

GRUNDY CENTER – For the fourth year in a row, Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) has once been honored by NRC Health with the 2026 Excellence in Patient Experience – Critical Access Hospital award. The award recognizes hospitals and health systems throughout the country who are consistently providing exceptional patient experiences.

Grundy County Board of Supervisor's Meeting – 8/31/26

Following approval of the previous meeting’s minutes, supervisors heard from Renee Von Bokern regarding a proposal for human resources services for the county. Von Bokern currently works with six other counties in a preventative triage role for any human resources related issues that arrive for county employees. Board members wanted to gather more information from department heads as well as other elected officials before deciding on the proposal.

GRUNDY COUNTY — A recent multiagency search for a missing woman provided an example of how the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office is using drone technology to assist with emergency response.

Highway 175 Bridge Construction Update

Earlier this summer, residents of Grundy Center and Reinbeck were notified that a section of Highway 175 was going to be closed for a period of time and to prepare for a temporary detour for those traveling between the two towns. Closed on May 26th, work began on a bridge replacement project managed by the Iowa Department of Transportation. 

Dike-New Hartford tennis off to hot start in 2026

DIKE - The Dike-New Hartford Tennis team was 17-5 last season, but the state title eluded Head Coach Reegan Zinkula and the Wolverines. Nevertheless, the team is off to a 4-0 start and are poised at a shot at redemption.
