Parker’s 47 not enough for D-NH in district final

PARKERSBURG — Carson Parker put the Dike-New Hartford boys’ basketball team on his shoulders one final time last week, but it was not enough to lead the Wolverines to their third substate final in four years.
Parker scored 47 points, including D-NH’s first 27, as the Wolverines fell to third-ranked West Fork 66-64 in a Class 1A district final at Aplington-Parkersburg High School. The loss was the Wolverines third in the past four years to West Fork, including in the first round of last year’s state tournament.
“When we looked at this district and then the substate, we said it might be three of the top eight teams in the state,’ D-NH coach Greg Moore said of a substate that also includes undefeated and second-ranked New Hampton. “I thought the kids left it out there. We got great effort from a lot of kids, especially, I thought, in that second half a lot of kids stepped up. Byron (Fritch) hit one late there and we had a chance to get one back. We just  couldn’t get that critical one.”
