Tuesday's boys basketball: AGWSR hangs on for win

ACKLEY – AGWSR boys basketball outlasted Hampton-Dumont-CAL for a 51-48 season-opening victory in Ackley on Tuesday.
 
Jaden Penning scored 19 points and added six rebounds for the winning side. Daniel Stahl had nine points, David Koop contributed seven points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
 
AGWSR led 22-20 at halftime but the Bulldogs took a 35-32 lead after three quarters. H-D-CAL had a chance at multiple last second three-pointers to force overtime, but they didn't fall. Marco Guerrero led the Bulldogs with 14 points.
 
The Cougars avenged last season's 43-38 loss to the Bulldogs.
 
D-NH defeats Charles City
 
Dane Fuller scored 29 points to lead Dike-New Hartford to an 80-61 victory over Charles City in the Wolverines' season opener in Dike last Tuesday, Dec. 1.
 
Fuller made 12-of-17 shots, including 4-of-7 from the 3-point line, to lead all scorers on Tuesday. JJ Ritter countered with 27 to lead the Comets.
 
The rest of D-NH's starting five also scored in double digits – AJ Wegener and Zak Wauters scored 12 points each and Nathan Moore and Landen Sullivan contributed 10 points each. Wegener, Wauters and Cale Jensen all chipped in six rebounds each as well.
 
The Wolverines led 32-27 at halftime and closed well down the stretch by making 15-of-22 free throws and 29-of-51 total field goal attempts.
 
D-NH has won four meetings in a row between the two teams and seven of the last eight.
