SHEFFIELD – The game firmly in hand, Class 3A No. 3 Dike-New Hartford had something special to celebrate.

Senior Ellie Foster reached the 1,000-point career scoring mark with a basket at the 3 minute, 2 second mark of the third quarter against West Fork on Thursday, Jan. 9.

“She’s worked so hard over her career and she’s a true gym rat,” Wolverine head coach Bruce Dall said, “and for her to get her 1,000th point, that says a lot about her and a lot about the team to be able to get her the ball and be able to get her 1,000th tonight.

“I knew she was down to her last two (points) there, we saw it and didn’t know if she was going to wait until something for home or not.”

The Wolverines (8-1) pulled out to a 19-7 first quarter lead and commanded a 44-17 advantage at halftime, getting the continuous clock running shortly after Foster’s milestone.

Clearly, it was a difference of a mostly experienced squad against a mostly inexperienced Warhawk squad in this game.

“The (Emily) Caspers girl (is experienced), but other than that (not so experienced),” Dall said. “Traditionally, we have a lot of respect for West Fork and their teams. I know my last year at AGWSR in 2011, they beat us 20-19, the way they pulled the ball out and they ended up going to state, so I know that they take their basketball pretty seriously here."

Morgan Weber led the Wolverines with 19 points, Katie Knock added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Ellie Foster finished with 10 points on four rebounds and five assists.
