There’s a new game in town ... Pickleball gaining popularity in Grundy County

GRUNDY CENTER — It looks a little like tennis, sounds a little like ping pong and is gaining popularity both across the country and in Grundy County. Pickleball may not be a familiar game to many yet, though Grundy County Pickleball Club founder Rick Briggs said that could be a matter of time.
Pickleball came to Grundy County after Briggs and his wife discovered the game while vacationing in Arizona.
“Janet and I went down to Mesa just to try and see how we liked Arizona the year before I retired,” he said. “We went to a place called Sunland Village and we were walking around just looking at the community amenities and there were these people playing this game on the court. There was one court, it looked like a basketball court with a rim at each end of it, and one of the guys said ‘Come on in, would you like to play?’ and I said ‘What are you playing?’ And he said ‘It’s called pickleball.’
