School Board finds its man • Veteran superintendent to lead GC schools

GRUNDY CENTER — After more than three months searching for a new superintendent, the Grundy Center Community School District has hired a veteran educator to lead the district.
Last Friday the District hired Jerry Schutz, a nine-year veteran superintendent currently working in Pleasant Plains, Ill., to be its new leader.
The 56-year-old veteran of more than 20 years in education, and six and one-half years in the United States Army prior to that, said Grundy Center is the type of school district he had been looking to work in after serving in larger school districts in the past.
“I love being a superintendent, but one of the things I didn’t enjoy about the job in educational administration is you get disconnected from the kids when you’re in larger school districts,” he said, noting the Pleasant Plains has about twice as many students as Grundy Center. “The size of the district is great for me because I want to have relationship with kids and parents. This is exactly what I was looking for.”
