Mitch Koch

Mitchel “Mitch” John Koch, 63 of Wellsburg passed away on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.

Mitchel John Koch was born on July 27, 1958. His parents were Chris and Marion Koch. Mitch grew up on a farm near Holland and attended Grundy Center School, graduating with the class of 1976.

As a young boy, Mitch loved playing softball. As a young man, his hobbies included going to stock car races, especially the Boone Speedway Nationals; he would save all his change all year long so he could attend. Mitch was the mechanic for Jerry Schipper’s stock car, rebuilding the stock car’s motor as part of the racing team. He loved watching John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies.

As an adult, Mitch drove truck for Schipper Farms and went on to purchase his own truck under Koch Trucking LLC. He primarily worked for Krueger Seed Company in Dike. Mitch later drove truck for Panama Transfer in Wellsburg, until he retired.

Mitch kept busy during his retirement working at his Church, St. Paul Lutheran, in Wellsburg as custodian and cemetery sexton. Mitch also volunteered regularly at the Grundy Center Food Bank. He kept busy working part time for Wellsburg area farmers.

Mitch was very much loved by his family, church, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mitchel John Koch is survived by a sister, Janet Baldon, four nieces and nephews: Angela Cross, Brandon Cross, Darrell Jones, and John Boldon, and four great-nephews and nieces: Marion Hayden, Taiven Jones, Naleah Jones, and Kaisen Jones, along with numerous cousins.

Mitchel was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Wellsburg on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m.
