Letter to the editor

As a regular reader of my hometown Grundy Register, I read with great interest Rob Maharry's take on the Senator Grassley's comments of, and his participation with, the current oversight investigations relating to the F.B.I, the U.S. Justice Department (D.O.J.) of the previous Administration. Mr. Maharry uses terms "sad" and "pathetic" in describing Senator Grassley's "... full-throated, sycophantic, defense of Huckster-in-Chief."

As a person who helps write wiretap applications and prosecutes racketeering organizations for a living, I have followed this investigation intently as it relates to what appears to be an alarming governmental abuse of wiretap authority by the previous Administration. You wont' read about it in the mainstream media, but it is there on the internet if you are willing to look for it.  Much of the information is redacted, but right now all the evidence points to a corrupt Administration who used the F.B.I. and the D.O.J. to misinform judges and violate wiretapping laws to intercept communications for purely political purposes and using a trumped up (pardon the pun) Russia investigation as legal and political cover. Mr. Maharry claims he is genuinely curious about the situation" as he engaged with Senator Grassley with "no preconceived notions on the matter."

By saying that, I take that to mean that Mr. Maharry has limited background information on this matter, but yet he has drawn very critical conclusions about Senator Grassley and his work on this matter.  If Mr. Maharry hasn't looked deeply into this investigation, I highly recommend it.  I'm sure that Mr. Maharry, would want to get to the bottom of government corruption, regardless of political affiliation.

Senator Grassley knows much more than I know about the details about this investigation.  But from what I've seen, Senator Grassley is doing a tremendous job in investigating what may turn out to be one of the greatest political scandals ever. I, for one, am very proud to be a Grundy County native when speaking of Butler County native Senator Grassley and his work in this investigation.  We waste resources in D.C.  This, however, is something we really need to look into. I highly commend Senator Grassley and his work.

I was a political science major in college during Watergate. This investigation looks like it has the potential to "flood" Watergate. Now if we could only get our journalism friends to participate by honestly informing the public on this very important story. It appears that mainstream journalism may have a large role in coordinating with a corrupt administration in an attempt to avoid the truth.  If so, that's sad. That is pathetic.
