J-Hawks shut down Grundy Center girls

GRUNDY CENTER – Jesup forced 23 Grundy Center turnovers in a 56-31 loss for the Spartan girls basketball team at Grundy Center High School last Saturday.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Spartans, falling to 12-3 overall. Jesup improved to 11-3.

The J-Hawks jumped ahead 14-5 after the first quarter and added a 17-4 run in the fourth quarter.

Paiton Wallis scored 10 points to lead the Spartans, sharing the team rebounding lead with Lainy Thoren as both pulled down six rebounds each. Bailey Reding added seven points.

Jesup shot 20-of-32 from the free-throw line – the J-Hawks had nearly as many free-throw attempts as the Spartans had field-goal attempts (10-of-33) in Saturday's game.

Brittany Lingenfelter led Jesup with 22 points on 5-of-13 shooting.
