Highway 14 closed for culvert replacements in western Grundy County

For the second time in the last four months, one of Grundy County’s most well travelled state highways will be shut down as road crews go to work on repairs.

As of July 22, Highway 14 is closed from the 175 intersection seven miles west of Grundy Center all the way south to the Highway 96 turnoff in northern Marshall County, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation. The change will have major ramifications for residents of Conrad, Wellsburg and Grundy Center, especially those who commute to Marshalltown for work.

“I haven’t heard anything other than the inconvenience,” Conrad Mayor Jeff Martin said. “If people want to come into town, it will be a little longer.”

The DOT website estimates that the road will likely be closed until mid-October as crews replace culverts for a grading project and improve ditches. County highway T29, locally known as the Beaman blacktop, will serve as the official detour.
