Sawyer posted an 8-2 record on the mound, allowing 19 earned runs in a 1A-leading 70.1 innings pitched for an earned run average of 1.89. He struck out 82 batters and walked just three.

At the plate, Sawyer hit for a .405 average with six doubles, 23 runs batted in and 24 runs scored with 11 stolen bases, striking out only once in 79 at-bats.

Playing primarily at pitcher and shortstop, he committed just four errors in 99 chances.

Remsen St. Mary’s pitcher Blaine Harpenau was named the Class 1A captain. Sawyer was the only NICL West athlete named to the Class 1A team - South Hardin’s Dante Dolash earned first-team recognition in Class 2A.

Grundy Center's last all-state baseball player was Doug Eisenman in 2006.
