Grundy Center, G-R explore expanded athletic sharing

GRUNDY CENTER — Athletic sharing has become more and more the norm in Iowa’s smaller school districts, and Grundy Center is no exception. The school currently has sharing agreements in cross country with Gladbrook-Reinbeck, wrestling with G-R and North Tama and girls’ soccer with Aplington-Parkersburg.
Could more sharing be on the horizon? That was the question facing the Grundy Center School Board last Thursday during a special session. Superintendent Jerry Schutz said Gladbrook-Reinbeck has approached Grundy Center about joint boys’ and girls’ track and field teams this spring, and he asked if now is the time to explore sharing sports exclusively with G-R rather than going several different directions.
“That way we wouldn’t be cherry picking,” he said.
Athletic Director Rollie Ackerman said G-R came to Grundy Center last spring and said conversations were not limited to track.
