Grundy Center boys win North Butler team title

The Spartan boys beat out St. Ansgar and Forest City for first place at North Butler on Friday.

Grundy Center scored 141.5 points, followed by the Saints (134) and Indians (120).

Logan Knaack won the 100-meter dash in 11.44, Nick Ascher was victorious in the 110 hurdles in 16.23 and Zach Opheim triumphed in the long jump, leaping 19 feet, 11 inches.

Matt Jansen, Dayne Zinkula, Opheim and Knaack won the 4x100 in 45.47; that same quartet won the sprint medley in 1:40.04.

Silver medals went to Jansen in the 200, Kenny Day in the 3,200, Patrick Brown III in the high jump and the distance medley relay.

Day also won bronze in the 1,600. Wes Willis was third in the discus, and the Spartans placed third in the 4x2, 4x8 and sprint medley relay races.
