Grundy Center AmVets, American Legion members team up on new signage project

GRUNDY CENTER - The Grundy Center AmVets and American Legion members have found there's strength in numbers; in fact, the two groups now meet up together for joint meetings and have teamed up on several projects.

Most recently, the two local organizations teamed up on a joint project to add informational signage outside of the Grundy Community Center.

The new signage identifies the meeting day, time and location for the two organizations. It was designed by John Heeren of Cornfed Designs, and the frame was built by Jason Monaghan of Jesco Welding and Machine, whose businesses donated services and materials to assist the groups with the sign. In addition, Manatt's Inc. provided cement and the Grundy Center Electrical Department provided digging assistance to set the sign. GNB Bank assisted with grant money for the signage.

Gerald Monk of the Grundy Center American Legion says the two groups wanted to create the sign in an effort to increase awareness and membership to the Grundy Center AmVets and American Legion.

“We started teaming up a couple of years ago with the idea that the two groups would be able to do more if we worked together,” Monk said. “The idea for the sign came around a year or so ago, because we’re always trying to get more members to join, and our hope is that this signage will help with that.”

The groups are trying to reach more local veterans, and let them know the groups are there.

“Anyone who’s a veteran is welcome to show up to any meeting and we’re always looking for more people to join,” said Ronn Ross of the Grundy Center AmVets. “It’s a great opportunity to meet people with similar experiences. Our doors are open, and if you’re a veteran, you can just stop by and sit in on any meeting.”
