Girls basketball roundup: Homeister double-double keys Spartans victory

GRUNDY CENTER – Leslie Homeister scored 18 points with 10 rebounds in Grundy Center's 57-24 win over South Tama at Grundy Center High School on Monday, Jan. 20.

Lainy Thoren added 10 points with six rebounds in the Spartans' fourth-consecutive victory. Paiton Wallis had a team-high six steals.

Grundy Center led the winless Trojans 34-12 at halftime. The Spartans grabbed 26 offensive rebounds toward their total of 42 rebounds on Monday.

 

D-NH 69, WAPSIE VALLEY 34: The top-ranked Wolverines pounded the Warriors in Fairbank last Monday.

Ellie Foster led D-NH with 21 points. Sophia Hoffmann contributed 13 points with five rebounds off the bench. Katie Knock scored 12 points with four assists and three steals.

D-NH jumped out to a 35-9 lead after the first quarter and went up 47-15 at halftime for the 10th-consecutive win this season. D-NH completes the season sweep of Wapsie Valley after a 57-24 win on Dec. 10 in Dike.

 

BCLUW 49, COLO-NESCO 48: The Comet girls pulled off the one-point victory in Colo last Monday.

Allison Engle scored 18 points with eight rebounds and six assists for the visitors. Chloe Walters added eight points and 11 rebounds, Payton Pekarek chipped in 11 points.

The Comets trailed 32-20 at halftime but outscored the Royals (9-3) in the second half by a 29-16 margin to end Colo-NESCO's nine-game winning streak.

 

GLADBROOK-REINBECK 45, JANESVILLE 40 (OT): The Rebels fought to end a four-game losing streak with an overtime win at Janesville last Monday.

G-R outscored the Wildcats 9-4 in the overtime.

Belen Ellenberger paced the Rebels with 11 points. Katie Clark and Saari Kuehl cleaned up the glass with 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Clark added nine points and Kuehl dropped in eight points.
