GC/DNH academic decathletes third at state, advance to Nationals

JOHNSTON — After a three year absence from the awards podium, the Grundy Center/Dike-New Hartford Academic Decathlon team stormed to a third place finish at the state competition in Johnston March 7 and 8.
The GC-DNH point total of 29,000 will also allow them to represent Iowa in the United States Academic Decathlon (USAD) National Online Competition in April.
Academic Decathlon is a national competition that challenges high school students to master 10 academic events. Seven of the events require the intense study of basic curricular subjects: art, economics, literature, mathematics, social science, and science. The other three events are performance events that stress strong organizational and communication skills: essay, interview and speech.
