Ethne Carson

Ethne Carson, 92, of Conrad, IA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. Visitation was at 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church in Conrad.

Ethne was born in Portland, Oregon on April 3, 1930 to Iris and Oscar Okell. She attended Jefferson High School where she met her husband William Carson in the high school band. They married in January 1950 and were married for 53 years. 

Ethne was an elder and deacon in the Presbyterian church, sang in the church choir, and was a part-time church secretary at Grace Presbyterian Church in Portland for 20 years. She also played in a community band with her husband, Bill.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, morning walks, singing, laughing…and children. She helped organize a Kid’s Club at church, was a high school youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, and Camp Fire Girl leader. She also volunteered to read with kids at Rigler grade school. She loved telling stories and taking grandchildren on adventures. Ethne moved to Conrad to live with her son and family in 2011.

Ethne is survived by her son Rev. Kerry (Marijke) Carson, her daughter Kaylynn (Dan) Mills, and her daughter Francine (Wayne) Ledbetter, as well as grandchildren Leigh and Drew Carson, Nathan, Julie, Emily, and Laurie Mills, William Ledbetter, and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Oakview Nursing Home and Compassus Hospice for their loving care and help.
