Donald L. Weatherly

Donald L. Weatherly, 79, lifelong resident of Beaman, passed away at home unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Feb. 23, 2021. To honor his wishes, cremation rites will be given and a Celebration of Life gathering at the Beaman Memorial Hall will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family for a later designation. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with caring for Don and his family. Born in Marshalltown on August 16, 1941, he was the son of James and Marie (Shephard) Weatherly. He graduated from the Beaman-Conrad High School with the class of 1960. On August 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to Catherine Ann Gienger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and the couple made their home in Beaman. Don started working as a mechanic in a garage in Beaman and later started an extensive career in the semi-trailer trucking industry. He had hauled livestock for Neuroth Truck Line of Conrad, then for Reece Trucking of New Providence, hauled freight for Decker Truck Line of Fort Dodge and hauled turkeys for Land O Lakes of Ellsworth. Following those endeavors, Don became a terminal manager at Midland Transport of Marshalltown and terminal manager at Panama Transfer in Wellsburg, He later worked at Green Pet Products of Conrad. After nearly fifty years of hard work, Don retired in 2008 but still trucked fertilizer seasonally for Farm Service until 2013. Don enjoyed his horses and dogs, working on his own vehicles and was especially fond of his stray cat, “Bud”. He loved to mow and maintain his lawn and his friend’s acreage, receiving many compliments over the years. When relaxing, Don liked to watch sports on TV. He was well-known around town for cruising in his old Chevy pickup.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Cathy; his daughter, Robyn Weatherly; his brothers: Merle (Marge) Weatherly and Richard (Pam) Weatherly; sister-in-law, Jan Gienger and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In eternal life, Don has been reunited with his parents; a brother, Ron Weatherly; an infant brother and an infant sister and brother-in-law, Roger Gienger.
