D-NH's Payton Petersen named Co-Volleyball Player of the Year

Dike-New Hartford sophomore Payton Petersen was selected as Class 2A Co-Player of the Year in Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-state volleyball teams released last week.

Petersen shares the honor with West Liberty senior Macy Daufeldt. She was also named to the all-state elite team for the second-consecutive season. The elite team is comprised of the nine best volleyball players in the state, regardless of class.

Petersen averaged 4.7 kills and 3.2 digs per set this season and added 77 total blocks with 41 aces on 90.1 percent serving efficiency.

Joining Petersen on the Class 2A first team is twin sister Jadyn Petersen and Wolverines setter Madelyn Norton.

Jadyn averaged 3.2 kills and 3.4 digs per set this season and added 55 total blocks and 74 ace serves on 91.2 serving efficiency.

Norton, a junior, contributed 9.8 assists and 2.3 digs per set and added 43 blocks and 46 aces on 89.5 percent serving efficiency.

Lexie Fager earned all-state honorable mention - the senior libero averaged 2.8 digs per set this season.

D-NH head coach Diane Harms was named Class 2A Coach of the Year.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball had three juniors earn Class 1A IGCA all-state honors: Megan Cooley on the second team, Ava Wyatt on the third team and Emma McClintock honorable mention.

Cooley averaged 2.4 kills and 2.4 digs per set; Wyatt averaged 3.5 kills and 2.2 digs per set and was also the team leader in ace serves with 59; McClintock distributed 8.4 assists per set and added 2.0 digs per set.

AGWSR's Brynn Smith and BCLUW's Eden Wilson also earned all-state honorable mention.

Smith averaged 5.2 kills and 3.6 digs per set for the Cougars; Wilson averaged 4.1 kills and 2.6 digs per set.
