During a brief special meeting last Tuesday night, the Conrad city council unanimously voted to award the contract for the construction of a new fire station to Brycon, LLC, of Marshalltown.
Derek Johnson of the IS Group once again attended the meeting and presented the bids to the council. A total of five companies submitted bids—Brycon, Bushong of Montezuma, Hay Construction of Marshalltown, King Construction of Iowa Falls and Point Builders of Iowa Falls. Brycon submitted the low bid at $881,000, which came in substantially below the engineer’s estimate of $1,005,780, and Johnson added that he had heard good things about Brycon from the references he spoke to after receiving bids.
After a brief discussion, a motion from councilman Ryan Callaway to accept the base bid of $881,000 as well as an alternate bid of $40,000 for concrete at the site passed by a 4-0 vote (Brad Murty was absent).
