Boys golf roundup: Grundy Center wins home invite

GRUNDY CENTER – Dexter Whitehill shot a 77 to guide Grundy Center boys golf to a team title in the Spartan Invite at Town & Country Golf Club on Saturday morning.

The Spartans came in with a 322 team score, 13 strokes better than runner-up Hudson. BCLUW was fifth with 383 strokes.

Grundy Center’s Ashton Martens earned runner-up honors with a 78. Ben Wegmann finished fifth with an 83 and Preston Martens shot an 84 for the Spartans. Sullivan Dirks and Colin Gordon carded a 94 and 98, respectively.

Ray Callaway led the Comets with an 86 to tie for 12th. Mason Martin and Kade Pekarek both chipped in 97s and Walker Ashton had a 103. Bodie Butler contributed 105 and Chance Cordes shot 110.

STAHL, GERBRACHT MEDAL AGAINST EAST MARSHALL - Daniel Stahl and Bo Gerbracht paced the AGWSR golfers to a 180-209 victory at Wandering Creek in Marshalltown on Monday, April 25.

Stahl was the medalist with a 41, Gerbracht one stroke back as a runner-up. Eli Kuper added a 48 and Gabe Nederhoff contributed a 49. Eli Brandt and Easton Kerns each had rounds of 50.

D-NH 2ND IN WATERLOO NICL TRI – Aplington-Parkersburg boys golf won a competitive triangular with Dike-New Hartford and Waterloo Columbus at Gates Park on Friday.

A-P scored a 170, followed by D-NH with 175 and Columbus with 186.

Will Steege shot a 41 to lead A-P. 

D-NH’s Benton Bixby and Jacob Stockdale each shot 43s, followed by Shayden Loger with a 44 and Kamden Kannegieter and Carson Costello with 45s. Jaxon Wauters added a 49.

STAHL MEDALS BUT SPARTANS WIN DUAL - Daniel Stahl had the medalist round with a 34 at Meadowbrook last Thursday as AGWSR welcomed Grundy Center - the Spartans came away with the team victory by a 155-174 margin.

Ashton Martens was the low man for Grundy Center with a 36 and was the individual runner-up. Dexter Whitehill followed with a 38, Preston Martens shot 39 and Colin Gordon holed out with a 42. Sam Bingman and Ben Wegmann contributed 45s.

Bo Gerbracht was the next Cougar on the leaderboard with a 43, followed by Gabe Nederhoff’s round of 47 and a couple 50 rounds from Eli Brandt and Easton Kerns. Eli Kuper shot a 54.

BCLUW BESTS REBELS AT OAKWOOD – Ray Callaway shot a 3-over round to lead BCLUW boys golf to a 162-206 victory on a sunny Thursday on Oakwood Golf Course in Conrad.

Callaway shot a 38 to lead the way for the Comets. Bodie Butler and Kade Pekarek each shot 41s, with Kade Pekarek earning runner-up honors. Mason Martin closed out BCLUW’s scoring with a 42 - Walker Ashton and Lincoln Stover were non-team scorers shooting 48 and 52, respectively.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Isaac Baer led the Rebels with a 45. Kadyn Schick and Trey Eggers each shot 52s and Cole Fleshner had a 57. Michael Boyd and Austin Gehring contributed 58 and 59, respectively.

GRUNDY WINS WEST TRI AT WANDERING CREEK - Last Tuesday, the Spartans were well ahead of BCLUW and East Marshall in a triangular at Marshalltown hosted by East Marshall.

The Spartans scored a 169, followed by BCLUW with 194 and the hosts with 209.

Grundy Center’s Dexter Whitehill came to the clubhouse with the low scorecard and a 39. Ashton Martens was the runner-up with a 41. BCLUW’s Ray Callaway was a stroke off at 42 for third individually.

Colin Gordon and Ben Wegmann added a 44 and 45 to close out the Spartan scoring - Preston Martens and Sam Bingman shot 47 and 48 for the 5-6 Spartan scores on the day.

The Comets followed Callaway with Mason Martin’s 49, Bodie Butler’s 50 and Kade Pekarek’s 53. Walker Ashton shot a 56 and Chance Cordes a 65.

AGWSR CRUISES PAST TIGERS IN WELLSBURG – Bo Gerbracht and Daniel Stahl went sub-40 on their scorecards for AGWSR boys golf’s 158-194 win over South Hardin in a Tuesday dual at Meadowbrook Golf Course.

Gerbracht was the medalist with a 36, Stahl following with a 37. Eli Brandt and Easton Kerns shot 40 and 45 respectively. Gabe Nederhoff shot a 46 and Cade Rose came in with a 52.

WOLVERINES A HANDFUL SHY IN DIKE – Carson Costello earned runner-up honors for Dike-New Hartford boys, dropping a close one with Union at Fox Ridge last Tuesday, with the Knights prevailing, 167-172.

Costello tied with Union’s Joe Bistline with each scoring 40, Bistline won a tiebreaker. Jacob Stockdale was right behind with a 41. Benton Bixby and Kamden Kannegieter contributed 45 and 46, respectively, to the team total. Jaxon Wauters shot a 47 and Shayden Loger turned in a 52.
