Board gives preliminary Good Conduct Policy approval

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center School Board gave preliminary approval to a new district Good Conduct Policy during its regular meeting last Wednesday at the District Administration Office.
The new policy is similar to the old one with one fairly major exception regarding students who are in the presence of a situation that violates the policy but not actively involved in it.
“Mere presence is the biggest thing that has changed,” Secondary Principal Steve VanderPol said.
In the revised policy, mere presence has been defined as “being in attendance at a function or party where the student knows or has reason to know that alcohol or other drugs are being consumed illegally by minors and failing to leave despite having a reasonable opportunity to do so.”
