All-NICL West Girls Basketball: Grundy Center's Thoren, AGWSR's Hames unanimous first-teamers

Grundy Center sophomore Lainy Thoren and AGWSR junior Alyssa Hames are in a trio of unanimous first-team selections to the All-NICL West girls basketball team.

East Marshall senior Olivia Terrones was named Outstanding Player; West Marshall coach Fred Zeller received Coach of the Year honors.

Thoren averaged 9.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists for the Spartans in division play. Hames was second in the division behind Terrones with 16.0 points per division game, adding 6.2 rebounds per contest.

BCLUW sophomore Allison Engle was the other first team selection. Engle scored 11.3 points per game with 6.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Comets.

Area second teamers were AGWSR senior Rachel Sicard and junior MaKenna Kuper; BCLUW sophomore Chloe Walters, Grundy Center sophomore Paiton Wallis and Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior Saari Kuehl.

Sicard led the NICL West with 18 blocked shots against division foes and added 9.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Kuper averaged 7.0 points, 2.9 steals and 3.5 assists per game for the Cougars.

Walters scored 11.6 points per game for the Comets and also averaged 9.0 rebounds; Wallis scored 8.7 points and averaged 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds; Kuehl averaged 7.3 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Rebels.

Players earning honorable mention were AGWSR's Grace Finger; BCLUW's Payton Pekarek; Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Katie Clark and Grundy Center's Frannie Brown.
