All-NICL West Boys Basketball Team: G-R's Tscherter unanimous first-teamer, GC's Nelson top coach

Gladbrook-Reinbeck senior Tyler Tscherter was one of two unanimous first-team selections on the All-NICL West boys basketball teams this week.

Tscherter joins South Hardin junior Beau Butler as unanimous picks. Butler was named the NICL West's Outstanding Player and Grundy Center head coach Joe Nelson received Coach of the Year honors.

AGWSR senior Luke Starr, BCLUW senior Treye Teske and Grundy Center sophomore Brayden Sawyer join Tscherter on the first team.

Tscherter, a Kirkwood Community College baseball commit, averaged 15.7 points per game for the Rebels in division play this season. He added 5.5 rebounds per game and had 41 assists and 16 steals.

Starr led the NICL West averaging 17.3 points per division game, adding 5.5 rebounds per game. Teske averaged 14.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per division game.

Sawyer scored 12.3 points per game for the Spartans, leading the West with 28 made three-pointers in division games this season and adding 5.4 rebounds per game.

Second-teamers from the Grundy Register coverage area were AGWSR's Jaden Penning, BCLUW's Mason Yantis, Gladbrook-Reinbeck's William Kiburis and Grundy Center's Wes Willis.

Penning scored 10.3 points per game and had 20 steals and 27 assists for the Cougars in division play; Yantis averaged 8.3 points and was the Comets' leading rebounder at 6.4 boards per game; Kiburis averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.3 steals as a freshman for the Rebels; Willis led the Spartans with 6.9 rebounds per game and added 10.8 points per game.

Honorable mention went to AGWSR's Titan Opperman, BCLUW's Jesse Moore, Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Eli Thede and Grundy Center's Jensen Clapp.
