BELMOND – AGWSR’s return to 11-man had to wait one more day after storms postponed Friday’s game at Belmond-Klemme.

The Cougars were ready for game time on Saturday afternoon.

Cale Culver broke off a couple long touchdown runs and AGWSR’s defense shut out Belmond-Klemme in the second half of a 21-6 Week 1 victory.

Culver started the second-half scoring with an 85-yard touchdown run and added a 22-yard scamper for a score in the fourth quarter, finishing with 190 yards on 16 carries.

Bradly Roder had the first touchdown of the day on a six-yard run. Belmond-Klemme scored with 23 seconds left before halftime on an 11-yard pass from Gavin O’Connor to Brian Duran, but the PAT kick was blocked and AGWSR went into halftime with a 7-6 lead.

Defensively, Roder made 6.5 stops for the Cougars, including one tackle for loss; Culver added six total tackles. Ben Puente pushed B-K back with 5.5 total stops, two of them for a loss.

AGWSR heads to North Tama on Friday.
