DIKE – Aplington-Parkersburg senior Garrett Hempen surpassed 1,000 career points, with 24 of them in a 73-44 Falcon victory over Dike-New Hartford on Friday.

The Falcons, ranked second in Class 2A by the IHSAA, improved to 8-0. D-NH fell to 4-5 overall.

A-P led 32-21 at halftime. The teams traded baskets to start the third quarter before A-P put its foot down with a 16-2 flurry that put the Wolverines out of reach.

“D-NH did a very good job in the first half limiting our transition and we weren’t as aggressive pushing it as we needed to be and we got it going a little bit more in the second half,” A-P head coach Aaron Thomas said.

Benton Bixby led the Wolverines with 15 points and Devon Lotts contributed eight points. Braxten Johnson added seven points and seven rebounds; Colin Meester had six points and six assists.

A-P outrebounded the Wolverines 36-19, including 14 Falcon rebounds off the offensive glass.
