Maxine Carstedt

Maxine Carstedt, 77, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Liscomb, IA, died as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, in Phoenix.

Funeral services were held Nov. 13, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. Inurnment took place at the Conrad Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Anderson Funeral Homes in Conrad. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

Maxine was born on Feb. 22, 1946, to Lowell and Doris (Stewart) McKibben in Marshalltown. She and her family grew up in rural Liscomb and she attended BCL high school, graduating with the class of 1964. She was united in marriage to John Carstedt in 1965. They later divorced. They resided in the Minneapolis area, including Stillwater, Minn., before relocating to Champaign, Ill. She continued her education at ADN Parkland College in Champaign, Ill. to become a registered nurse. After college, Maxine worked at the Carle Foundation Hospital for a short time. The family relocated to Round Rock, Texas, in 1984, where she spent most of her adult life. She worked as a nurse for St. David/Georgetown Hospital for 23 years before retiring in 2012.

Aside from being a great nurse, she enjoyed spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. Maxine also volunteered her time to several organizations including the Texas Nurses Association and the Learning Activities for Mature Persons at University of Texas. She was a member of the Journey of Faith United Methodist Church in Round Rock and Methodist Federation Social Action. In 2018, Maxine relocated to Phoenix, Ariz. and in recent years, she often traveled across the nation visiting cousins and friends as well as frequent trips back to Iowa to visit her sisters. She enjoyed catching up with her Conrad friends, playing cards, and attending sporting events there. She will always be remembered for her care and concern for others.

Maxine will be dearly missed by two daughters; Nicola (William) Pribyl of Highmore, S.D., Jennifer Carstedt of Phoenix, Ariz., two grandsons; Michael (Mimi) Schaefer of Luling, Texas, Nicholas (Valerie) Schaefer of Helotos, Texas, one granddaughter, Kaytlyn (Carter) Kindle of Miller, S.D., three great-grandchildren, two sisters; Phyllis Johnson of Baxter, Marjorie (Jerry) Johnston of Conrad, a sister-in-law, Susan McKibben of Saginaw, Mich., two nieces, and eight nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers; Donald in infancy, and Paul.
