DES MOINES – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development State Director of Iowa Theresa Greenfield announced last week that Grundy Center Municipal Utilities is one of several Iowa businesses and entrepreneurs receiving assistance with projects that promote rural economic development and job creation projects through the Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program.

GCMU will receive a $300,000 grant to establish a new revolving loan fund, which will assist Maroon & White Inc. in renovating the former Upper Elementary building in Grundy Center into a preschool and childcare facility. The project is expected to create 11 new jobs and promote economic development in rural Grundy County.

“The investments announced today demonstrate how USDA is supporting rural businesses to create and retain jobs,” said Director Greenfield. “Thanks to the leadership of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Agriculture Secretary Vilsack, we are helping expand access to capital, which will help build a brighter future for our rural Iowa neighbors.”

A total of $26.8 million has been designated to Iowa for projects in 12 counties in the state, including Grundy. That is part of a $981 million investment nationwide in 47 states, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
