Four placers for A-P/GC girls

Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center girls wrestling sent five girls to Decorah’s girls tournament on Saturday, with four of those Falcons placing.

Kayden Muller led the way at 140 pounds, going 3-2 on the day in fourth place. She fell to Decorah’s McKenzie Tollefson in the quarterfinals by fall in the third period in the first match of her day, then battled back through the consolation bracket with three straight first-period pinfalls, to reach the third-place match. Tollefson met Muller again there, and won once again to claim the bronze.

Ella Luebbers was also in the 140-pound bracket and finished sixth with a 2-3 record on the day.

Lia Hovenga and Grace Storjohann were each fifth-place finishers. Storjohann went 1-1 in a small 125-pound “A” bracket, while Hovenga’s 110 bracket was a little more crowded, going 2-2. Hovenga lost an ultimate tiebreaker with Crestwood’s Addalyn Isaacson in the consolation semifinals, but bounced back in the fifth place match with a first-period pinfallvictory.

Storjohann lost her first match of the day to West Fork’s Preslee Dickman, and followed with a 10-2 major decision against Waukon’s Jada Bushaw.

Ali Burkhalter was 1-2 on the day and missed placing. She claimed a 12-10 sudden victory to start her day against Postville’s Emilie Avitan, but lost by fall in her next two matches.
