All-district softball: Three Grundy Center players on 2A team

Grundy Center’s Emma Beck, Lucy Lebo and Carlie Willis received all-district distinction from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s all-district teams released last week.

All three were selected to the Class 2A Northeast team, as was Dike-New Hartford senior Taylor Kvale. BCLUW’s Callie Swanson and Kaylee Grant earned spots on the 1A Northeast team.

Emma Beck, senior: Beck struck out 286 batters in 134 and one-third innings for the Spartans with only 35 walks and a 0.94 earned run average. She was 16-6 overall in the circle. At the plate, she hit for a .333 average with seven doubles, 19 runs batted in and 18 runs scored with seven stolen bases.

Lucy Lebo, sophomore: Lebo hit .370 with team-leading marks in doubles (10) and home runs (3), adding 18 runs batted in and 33 runs scored with 14 stolen bases for Grundy Center. She had a 2.88 ERA in 41 and one-third innings in the circle.

Carlie Willis, sophomore: Willis led the Spartans with a .391 batting average, adding five doubles, two triples, a home run and 17 runs batted in with 19 runs scored. She also tied for the team lead with 23 stolen bases.

Taylor Kvale, senior: Kvale hit .407 this season with eight doubles, two triples, three home runs and 22 runs batted in with 39 runs scored and 36 stolen bases.

Kaylee Grant, senior: Grant hit .456 with four doubles, one triple and 16 runs batted in and stole 30 bases in 31 attempts from the leadoff spot in the BCLUW batting order.

Callie Swanson, sophomore: Swanson posted a .417 batting average with eight doubles and 31 runs batted in. Swanson also threw out nine attempted base stealers behind the plate.
