Alan L. Schiebel

Alan L. Schiebel, 80, of Conrad, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at UnityPoint Health - Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 3, at Beacon Christian Church of Conrad. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Interment will follow services at the Conrad Cemetery. Friends and family are invited back to the church for a luncheon following the burial. Alan Schiebel was born July 7, 1943, to Darrel and Verna (Small) Schiebel in Marshalltown. He grew up on a farm west of Conrad where he was active in 4-H and the family farm. After graduation from Beaman-Conrad High School in 1961, he attended Marshalltown Junior College studying business. On June 20, 1965, he married his childhood neighbor and high school sweetheart, Patricia Harmon. The two were married nearly 59 years and raised two daughters. Alan farmed and worked as an Electrician the first nine years of marriage before opening an electrical and appliance business in Conrad in 1974. He worked as an electrical contractor and appliance serviceman for the next 40 years while Pat managed the store.

Alan belonged to the Conrad United Methodist Church where he participated in several activities including Junior UMYF leader and trustees. He was active in the community serving as co-chairman of Black Dirt Days, the Main Street Board, City Council, Chamber of Commerce and the Lion’s Club.

Alan is survived by his wife, Pat of Conrad, two daughters, Lynnly (Jim) Evans of Iowa Falls and Erin (Dale) Hoffmann of Altoona, three grandchildren, Zachary Evans and special friend Samantha Garcia of West Des Moines, Scott (Jenny) Evans of Dumont, Gabrielle Evans (Mason Neubauer) of Louisville, Kentucky, one great-grandson, Miles Alan Evans of Dumont and his siblings, Wayne (Judy) Schiebel, LaDonna Sharp, Steve Schiebel, and Deanna (Tom) Jordan.

Alan was dearly loved and is greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel and Verna, and his brother-in-law, Dean Sharp.
