Wolverines complete remarkable 4-peate

The Dike-New Hartford volleyball team wrapped up its fourth consecutive Class 2A state volleyball championship Friday with a four-set victory over third-ranked Western Christian.

Set scores were 25-21, 25-23, 17-25 and 25-23.

Senior setter Rachel Koop was named captain of the Class 2A All-Tournament team while fellow seniors Briana Weber and Lizzy Blough were also on the all-tourney squad. Koop ranked second in the tournament with 104 assists and ninth with 19 kills. Weber led the tourney in kills and digs while Blough ranked fifth in the tournament with 30 kills.

The top-ranked Wolverines (40-3) advanced to the final with three-set victories over eighth-ranked West Branch and fourth-ranked Unity Christian. They won Friday's match despite recording seven less kills than their opponent and attacking at a lower efficiency rating.

Grundy Center fell in a hard-fought five-set match in the first round to second-ranked Sumner-Fredericksburg. The seventh-ranked Spartans dropped the first two sets before rallying to victories in the next two. S-F won the fifth-and-deciding set 15-8. The Spartans finish with a 29-10 record.
