What we're thankful for

It’s that time of year again, a time to reflect, rejoice and give thanks. As we prepare ourselves to gather around the table, eat as much as we can and celebrate our revered family Thanksgiving traditions, the staff of The Grundy Register would like to share what we’re thankful for this year.

Of course, as a group, we’re always the most grateful for our loyal subscribers and advertisers who make what we do possible. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you, and we’ll continue to deliver one of the best small weekly newspapers in Iowa as long as you’ll allow us to. Without further adieu, here’s our list.

Brenda Abels, Administrative Assistant- This year I am very thankful for my healthy grandchildren, especially our newest addition Cooper John Abels.

Lisa Bakker, Page Designer and Composition- I am thankful for my family and glad we are all healthy. I’m also thankful for another good and safe harvest completed, the freedoms that we have and the great co-workers I have.

Michaela Kendall, News Editor- This year I have a lot to be thankful for. I’m thankful for Thanksgiving, green bean casserole, pecan pie, and the fact that I’m not a turkey. I’m thankful for re-runs of The Office and Parks and Recreation. I’m thankful for coffee, Red Bull, and other forms of caffeine that help me function like a normal person. I’m thankful for videos of dogs on the Internet, and for real dogs, and not for cats.

I’m thankful that I work for a great company, and I’m thankful for the people I work with. I’m thankful for my family, and their unending support in everything I do; I’m thankful for my friends, who support me in all my good and bad decisions. And I’m thankful for my fiancé, Jared, who is (I’m sure) thankful for me.

Robert Maharry, Publisher- Most of all, I’m thankful for Kellie, Wyllo and the rest of my family. It’s been an amazing year, and when I first migrated to this area, I never dreamed that I’d be here today.

I’m thankful for my sanity on the days I still have it, for employment, for the roof over my head and for the opportunity to work with great people who truly care about the communities we serve and the information we provide on a weekly basis.

Diane Paige, Dike Correspondent- Thanks be to God for the old and young members of my family. I’m thankful we live in our wonderful caring community of Dike. Faith Hope and Charity, that's the way to live successfully. Happy Thanksgiving from Diane Paige.

Clint Poock, Regional Sales Manager- I have a lot to be thankful for this year. To say it’s been eventful and with a few surprises along the way would be an understatement.

At home, my wife Sara continues to work lots of hours and more than equally leads our at home efforts. She’s always upbeat, positive and supportive. No wonder myself, our kids, my family members and our mini labra doodle think the world of her.

At home continues with my kids. They get good grades and have lots of interests. Growing up is different than when I was a kid. Kudos to them.  My parents and siblings continue to be number one and the best support system anyone could ask for. I’m lucky. My friends are a close second.

At work, Grundy, Butler and Hardin Counties are the best. This is year 11 for me. Where has the time gone? I’m thankful for our great staff and team members here locally and at our other papers, including our home office. They’re some of the best people anywhere.

I’m extra thankful this year for new leadership, and I’ve got the best leaders anyone could ask for—Matt, Pam and Toni make great leaders. They both work tirelessly and have made all the difference for our company and me. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Jake Ryder, Sports Editor- I’m thankful to have a loving wife who supports me through thick and thin and to live and work in a community that, for the last two years, has helped make this feel like home for us.
