TC students visit capitol building

WELLSBURG –  Last week, a group of fifth and sixth grade students from Timothy Christian School took a trip to Des Moines, where they toured the historic Iowa State Capitol.
Teacher Dennise Smith, who accompanied the students, said the trip was the perfect way to end a six-week study of Iowa history.
“The students were pretty impressed with the capitol building, and we learned a lot of interesting facts about the history of Iowa,” Smith said.
The students were provided an informational tour of the Secretary of State’s office by Secretary Paul Pate’s staff. There, students examined the original handwritten Iowa Constitution, explored the Capitol’s three-story vault and learned about the rich architectural history of the Iowa Secretary of State’s Capitol Office.
After the students were done at the capitol, they visited the State Historical Museum and the Des Moines Botanical Center.
