GRUNDY CENTER – Summer may be a time off for the students, but the Grundy Center Community School District has been hard at work with construction projects and other updates over these past couple of months.
First and foremost of these projects is the gym addition at the middle school-high school.
This summer saw the first steps of the project undertaken as the area where the new gym will be located was enclosed and several windows in the Ag Shop and locker rooms were bricked up in preparation for the project.
Construction bids for the gym are due August 31, and the Grundy Center Board of Education will approve bids on September 1. Construction will commence as soon as a general contractor is appointed.
According to the construction timeline assembled by Invision Architecture, the foundations/sitework is set to begin mid September, with construction through the winter months, before the gym is finished around May of 2017.
Other projects that the school tackled this summer include moving the greenhouse, which had to be done because of the gym project, and building a new one close by. Construction of the new greenhouse is expected to be done this week, prior to school starting. The old greenhouse was returned to the previous donor, who had it removed from the site.
