Spartans reach semifinal round at Tiger Invitational

CEDAR FALLS – The Class 2A No. 8 Grundy Center volleyball team went 3-2 and made a strong showing against Class 5A No. 4 Cedar Falls and Class 2A No. 6 Dike-New Hartford at the Tiger Invitational Saturday.
The Spartans opened pool play with wins in straight sets over Cedar Rapids Washington (21-11, 21-7) and Aplington-Parkersburg (21-11, 21-13).
“Both of those matches we were able to stay in control of the game,” Grundy Center head coach Lori Willis said. “We passed the ball very well which allowed for our middles to be very active in our offense. We know that we are going to do well when we establish a middle presence, as it only opens up opportunities for the outside hitters. I felt our bench did a good job coming in and played well.”
