Seconds add up to fourth for Wolverines

Second-place finishes added up to a strong team result last weekend for the Dike-New Hartford boys’ track and field team.

The Wolverines placed second in four events, including three relays, on their way to a fourth-place team finish in Class 2A at the nation’s largest high school track and field meet.

“It kind of stinks,” senior Connor Neuroth said of the team placing just five points short of a trophy. “We wanted to be top three, but I’m proud of all my teammates and the work we put in. We all know that we left it all out there.”
Wolverine runner-up finishes included the 4 x 400, 4 x 800 and distance medley relays as well as John Crew in the 400-meter dash.

“That’s the fastest I’ve ever done ... it was hard though,” Crew said of his 400, which came just two events after he anchored the 4 x 800. “I honestly don’t know (how I had anything left to kick with at the end of the 400). I just didn’t want to give it up at the end. I don’t know where that came from, I’ll be totally honest.”
