O’Malley admits nomination fight could be difficult battle

GRUNDY CENTER — Presidential Candidate Martin O’Malley (D, Maryland) admitted that his fight for the 2016 Democratic Presidential nomination could be a difficult fight. That said, however, during a stop in Grundy Center Friday, the former Maryland governor and mayor of Baltimore said he is up for the fight.
“I’ve been in battles like this before,” he said. “When I first ran for state senate and then when I ran for mayor of Baltimore, the day I announced I was the first choice of a whopping 7 percent of my neighbors.
“This is a narrow path and it is an uphill path, but I’ve always been drawn to the tough fights and what I know for sure is this: people in Iowa are looking for new leadership and an ability to get things done.”
O’Malley touted himself as the only candidate in the race who offers progressive values and leadership.
“For that reason I believe we are going to do very well as we get our word out,” he said.
