Mom Camp in session ...

DIKE — Some were there to learn a little about the game. Some were there to see what their sons were doing every day as they spent hours at football practice. Some were there simply to support their sons.
More than 30 Dike-New Hart-ford moms and supporters ... no dads allowed ... were part of the Dike-New Hartford football team’s annual Mom Camp that’s been a tra-dition at the school for the past three years.
Wendy Camarata, mom of Nick Durnin, said this is her third D-NH Mom Camp and that she learns something new every year.
“I don’t know all the technical terms and it helps discuss things at home,” she said.
D-NH head coach Don Bet-ts opened the two-hour camp by explaining his expectations of his players and then going over some football basics, including scoring and the team’s basic offensive and defensive formations. There were also sessions on the team’s strength and conditioning programs as well as the equipment of the game before the moms moved outside to learn a couple of very basic plays.
