Lights, camera, action: My Town Pictures to produce film in Conrad

Residents of Conrad and the surrounding area will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to become movie stars— local ones, at least—with the production of a yet to be named film from My Town Pictures, a Midwest-based company that has already made movies in Eldora and Grundy Center within the last five years, in celebration of Conrad’s 25th anniversary of becoming a Main Street Iowa community.

“Last year we started thinking, what would be something really fun to engage the entire community to do, and something a little different, still highlighting our sponsors and what we’ve done in the community,” Conrad Chamber-Main Street Program Director Darla Ubben said. “We thought, what better way to actually showcase Conrad in a unique way?”

My Town Pictures Creative Director Scott Thompson, who lives in a rural community in Wisconsin, has been making these movies for 17 years now, and they’ve got everything one would expect from a trip to the theater—a full cast and storyline, but in films like “Promise Me,” which debuted in Grundy Center last fall, and the yet to be named film in Conrad, all of the actors and actresses are local and chosen from an open casting call. In Conrad, auditions will be held on March 10 at the First Presbyterian Church from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.
