Libraries Rock: Kling Memorial Library kicks off summer reading program

GRUNDY CENTER – It’s going to be a rockin’ and rollin’ summer at the Kling Memorial Library as the library kicks off its annual Summer Reading Program.
This year’s theme, “Libraries Rock,” is marked by Dance Parties at the library every Friday morning, and countless other events to remind the community just how fun it can be to visit the library.
Library director Lindsey Engelkes says the program has had a really good turnout so far. Already, nearly 300 people have signed up for the program, which includes adult, teen and children’s programs.
Engelkes says the Summer Reading Program is a great way to bring people in the community together, while providing them with fun entertainment during the summer months.
“While we are always looking for interesting programs to bring to Grundy Center, the summer reading program allows us to plan programs for kids, teens, and adults that go beyond the norm,” she said. “We provide great educational entertainment to children and opportunities for lifelong learning to adults.  Summer Reading is also a time that families can spend together encouraging each other not only to read, but to be more civically minded, with challenges like ‘pick up litter in the park,’ or ‘volunteer to help someone.’”
The Summer Reading Program offers programming for youngsters each Wednesday. The first program, a Robot Dance Party, was held on June 13th. During that time, local kids packed into the library to see Steve Couch and his robot creations walk, talk, sing and dance, providing fun and entertainment for the whole group.
