Letter to the editor

This letter is in response to the supervisor’s letter to the editor in last week’s Grundy Register, “Legislators should maintain local control of county budgets.” House File 773 and Senate File 634, limits the amount of property tax revenue that county officials can collect. Maybe this is a step in the right direction to reign in excessive spending by county officials. Is it fiscally responsible to spend millions of dollars for a new annex building and a proposed road paving project and then raise property taxes to cover “beneficial services?” Where is the “windfall” of revenue from the wind farm? It was supposed to be such a financial boon for the county.
