It's taco time: Maria's truck returns to Conrad

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and in some cases, the stomach grow hungrier.
           
After first arriving in the alley behind Main Street during the summer of 2016 (and taking one year off), Maria’s Tacos is back in downtown Conrad—albeit at a new location—in the recently designated food truck zone next to the old fire station. Manager Balvina Gomez, the daughter of founder Maria Gomez, plans to open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to start before heading to Grinnell for the rest of the week, but she could add more days if demand is high.
           
As the only taco truck in Conrad—and likely, all of Grundy County—Gomez sees a golden opportunity to reach an underserved area that has struggled to attract a restaurant to town since Carol’s closed in 2014, and with the saturation of Mexican eateries in Marshalltown, it just makes sense.
           
“Everybody comes back, so I think they do like it because I see familiar faces all the time,” she said.
