GRUNDY CENTER – Over the past 18 months, the Grundy County Memorial Hospital has undergone an extensive renovation project to expand and improve the hospital’s fastest growing health care services. Now, the results of the expansion effort will be presented to the public during an open house this Sunday.
The $7.5 million project includes the completion of the hospital’s Specialty Clinic expansion and second floor renovation, which was the third and final phase of a three-part facility improvement plan that was introduced almost 15 years ago.
“The completion of our Specialty Clinic expansion and second floor renovation means that the entire 65-year old hospital is new again,” said Ryan Bingman, hospital Director of Operations. “Other than the exterior brick, the original building is restored, including roof, windows, walls, lighting, heating and cooling.”
Bingman said the much-needed expansion of the Specialty Clinic is crucial to providing the care that patients need, as the clinic has more than doubled its patient volume since construction on the clinic was completed in 2006.
The first year it was open, 3,000 patients used the clinic. Last year, there were more than 7,500 patient visits – making the Specialty Clinic the fastest growing service at the hospital, as patient numbers have more than doubled in just over 10 years.
As the need for these services grows, the hospital has grown with it. Now, there are around 15 different visiting specialists at the hospital, and the recent expansion has added more room for these specialists, including new exam rooms and procedure rooms, as well as an expanded lobby area with private registration rooms for patients.
