D-NH volleyball wins back-to-back NICL East titles

DIKE – The Dike-New Hartford volleyball team appeared to be a team in transition at the beginning of the fall.

All-state talent from last season's state championship team had graduated from the program, which brought new faces into the fold.

This season has certainly been rockier than the 50-3 run last year, but the Wolverines have come up big in league play, finishing off a second-straight undefeated season with a straight-set sweep of Jesup on Thursday, Oct. 11.

D-NH earned its second-consecutive outright NICL East title as well. D-NH hasn't lost an NICL East match since Oct. 4, 2016 in a five-set match with Union.

The Wolverines won by match scores of 25-18, 25-10, 25-12. D-NH improved to 27-11 overall and finished with an 8-0 record in league play.

Morgan Weber had 16 kills, 14 digs and a season-high eight ace serves, leading D-NH in all three categories. Carlee Dove added seven kills and four blocks and Amber Rickert had four kills, 11 digs and was 13-of-13 serving with two aces.

The J-Hawks were as close as 18-all in the first set before Weber's first monster run at the service line, including three aces in the final five points to finish off the first set.

D-NH senior Sydney Lage has been on the roster for the past three seasons and seen several Senior Night festivities as a result. It's certainly different for her this season, sharing the moment with Sydney Lage, Amber Rickert and Rylee Wessely.

"It's a lot of different emotions," Lage added. "It's good though."
